Going to a specialist // and asking for help

Today's post is a continuation of my previous post, in which I talked about the mind-body / body-mind relationship - if you haven't read it, look there first! And today we'll talk about reaching out for help from a specialist who knows how to help.

I have the feeling that recently I saw a lot of posts about how various diseases look like in people. And actually there's nothing dangerous in those texts but sometimes when we read such posts we begin to wonder if we ourselves are not sick. But without the help of a specialist, we can't diagnose ourselves and we can’t say what our condition is, because each of us is an individual, and different diseases can look different in everyone.

What is the best way to diagnose? Go to a specialist. And if you don't know where to start, go to your family doctor first and from there you can get instructions on where to go after. Also, listen to your body, what it tells you - maybe it is reacting to a certain thing in a certain way, or maybe you changed something in your routine recently? The body knows and the body will tell.

Ciało wie i ciało powie.

This post is not meant to scare you but rather to motivate you to get tested regularly, for your own awareness that everything is ok. And remember that not everyone on the internet is a doctor and something that worked for them may not necessarily work for you. Everyone is different and it’s beautiful in its own way, so listen to your body and take care of yourself <3

Do you check yourself?

You may have noticed that in the previous Saturday story on my IG I was wearing glasses. Well, it’s a funny story that was an inspiration for today’s blog post. It started with online studies. There was this one time when I had a feeling that my left eye didn’t work well. I felt like I couldn’t properly see the shapes and the text on the screen was blurred. I said to myself that it was time to check my sight, but making an appointment took me a long time. When I finally went there, it turned out that my eye defect was bigger than I had expected before. At that moment I thought that we often belittle some things because we don’t think they’re dangerous or it’s not a huge thing - and so we just say never mind.

Today’s blogpost is an inspiration to realize some health aspects. First, health is the most important thing. I know, it sounds pretty obvious and we hear it all the time but I’m sure it happened to you to postpone an appointment with a specialist because it wasn’t  t h a t  necessary. But belittle health issues can have big and bad consequences. I don’t want to say that it’s always like this, but in general it’s better to check yourself just to have this comfort that nothing wrong is happening in your body.

Second thing is to do periodic health examinations like a blood test, dental checkup or an appointment at the gynecologist's cabinet (girls!) or at another specialist’s cabinets if you need to. In my opinion the blood test is a good source of information about everything that’s going on in our body. If you do it every six months (if there’s nothing wrong with your health) then you have a control on your health and it helps you to verify if everything’s okay! But remember, I’m not a specialist so if you have doubts please go to a doctor to make sure that you’re fine.

Thirdly, please don’t search on the internet what illness you can have based on the symptoms. I know it can be helpful and gives you kind of an image of what's going on in your body but you can find so many different and wrong information that won’t be true for your health but still will make you scared and stressed. And we don’t need another stressor, our life is already stressful. So if you think there’s something wrong with your body, it’s better to go to a doctor and ask if it is normal or not.

Apart from that, take care of yourself! Both physically and mentally. There’s a reason in a statement: a sound mind in a sound body, it’s all connected and one thing influences the other. Walks, small pleasures, meetings with friends or easy evenings with a book or a movie. It can be a small thing that makes you happy. And physical activity! The one you like the most and it doesn’t need to be running, cross fit or extreme yoga. There are more options! Look for your favorite one.

I hope this post will inspire you to check when you did your blood test last time because maybe it’s time to do it! Wish you all the best and stay healthy :)
