September essentials and October projects!

September was so warm and half calm half crazy for me! Let’s chat about this almost past month and do some plans for October which is gonna be full of… surprises.

September

Two first week I spent in Paris as you could see in the last post – check it out here if you haven’t read it already. It was a very nice time that I spent with my boyfriend, his family and my mum too! I was very happy that we had managed to organize this trip for her so she can meet my boyfriend’s family :D

But (!) something had happened before this trip to Paris! I had a very beautiful opportunity to be a translator during a Polish-French wedding which was a huge challenge for me. I don’t know if you know this about me but I’m a French teacher and usually I use this language to teach (beside my everyday life with my French boyfriend :p ) so this wedding was a totally different thing! It was a beautiful evening and a lot of people told me that my French was very good :’) I had tears of joy in my eyes! Plus I opened myself to some other opportunities with French language.

The second part of September was.. full of French class! As the school year has begun, a lot of my French students came back so I had some work to do :p We went back to Vienna and I think it was my first flight that didn’t bring me back to Poland but to another city abroad. It was a funny feeling. Also we participated in Vienna Bachata Congress which is a bachata festival and it was pretty cool but also very exhausting. Would you like to know more about it? Maybe I can right a post about bachata? :D

We’re about to finish this month… in Paris, celebrating two year together and having the last French croissant! I’m very very veeerrryyyy grateful for all of this happening in my life :’)

October

The new semester begins so I will go back to Poland… finally :P This academic year I want to work on some organization habits, especially for the meal prep. Last year I had several situations when I didn’t prepare anything to eat and then I was starving for the half of the day so I really want to make it better now.

Another thing is that October is going to be full of nice trips (yeaaaah, again!) and an amazing event but I’ll tell you more about this at the end of this month. Also I need to finish my driving license! I haven’t finished it yet because I had to take a break as I was traveling during past two month and I wasn’t in Lodz at all.

I’m pretty excited for this month! How about you? Tell me in the comments!

Revisit Paris with me!

I spent this year's holiday in Paris, which I already knew well. And even though I thought I knew Paris like the back of my hand, exploring it again with my mother was very cool! Hence my idea to make a list with these few more-or-less popular places and to invite you to take a walk around the French capital. Shall we go?

Idziemy?

1. Rendez-vous with nature - Parisian parks.
Although Paris is strictly built-up, there is some space for nature. I really like Parisian parks because they are often beautifully arranged, with some flowers here and there or even mini waterfalls. Plus something that I really like to see is people with books sitting on the bench. Here's a list of parks to discover!
  • Parc de Luxembourg
  • Parc Monceau
  • Jardin des Tuileries
  • Jardin des Champs-Élysées
  • Versailles (on Mondays it's open for free!)

Tutaj lista parków do odkrycia!
  • Parc de Luxembourg
  • Parc Monceau

2. Architecture to please your eye.
Apart from the fact that there are many beautiful townhouses in the center, there are additionally many beautiful buildings that are nice to see. You don't always have to (or can) go inside, but when walking the streets of Paris you can walk past, take a photo... and move on :p Below you will find the buildings I saw this time!
  • Musée d'Orsay
  • Palais Bourbon (governament building)
  • Pont Neuf (bridge)
  • Pont Alexandre III (bridge)
  • Panthéon

  • Palais Bourbon (budynek parlemntu)
  • Pont Neuf (most)
  • Pont Alexandre III (most)
  • Panthéon

3. Parisian classics.
Classics are classics, I don't need to describe them - just list them. I like to see them, walk past them to have that feeling of checking the on my list “what Paris is known for”. But you can skip the classics and visit Paris in an unconventional way ;)
A list of Parisian classics:
  • Musée du Louvre
  • Tour Eiffel
  • Opéra Garnier
  • Notre Dame de Paris (usually you can go inside but due to renovation works it's now more difficult)
  • Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre
  • Arc de Triomphe

3. Paryskie klasyki.
  • Tour Eiffel
  • Opéra Garnier
  • Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre
  • Arc de Triomphe

4. A stop for a coffee!
I wouldn't be myself if I didn't give some nice addresses for coffee :p the list may not be long, but these are the places I have visited and had coffee there :3
  • Cuppa Cafe
  • KB CaféShop
  • Wild & The Moon - Gravillers - Restaurant vegan à Paris
  • Paris Europe
  • Cuppa Cafe
  • KB CaféShop
  • Wild & The Moon - Gravillers - Restaurant vegan à Paris
  • Paris Europe

5. Additional attractions outside Paris, but still in the Paris area.
Paris is not just about what's in the center, but also the towns around it. We had a car so we could go here and there, but transport is doing quite well in the French capital (despite the strikes), so I've provided a list of nice places to get to by public transport too!
  • Herblay sur Seine (for the beautiful walks next to the Seine River)
  • Enghien-les-Bains (just for a walk around the city and to see the very cool casino!)
  • L'Isle-Adam (again, for a walk!)
  • Auvers-sur-Oise (to see the Van Gogh's house)

  • Herblay sur Seine (for the beautiful walks next to the Seine River)
  • Enghien-les-Bains (just for a walk around the city and to see the very cool casino!)
  • L'Isle-Adam (again, for a walk!)
  • Auvers-sur-Oise (to see the Van Gogh's house)

And that's it! Hope you enjoyed this little amator guide :) see in another city!

Tips for traveling part 2.0!

As I told you earlier on Facebook, today I will share some tips that may be helpful when you are planning your trip. I’m going to show you them on the specific example of buying tickets to Vienna - as this is my current most frequent travel destination!

To begin with, let's talk about possible types of transport. Practically every place can be reached in at least two ways - first by car, second (and here delete as appropriate) by train/plane/bus. Let's be honest, choosing the second option often involves possible transfers. Transfers and changes aren't bad, although personally I'm not their biggest fan, as in my case they involved various adventures - you'll read about it here. Nevertheless, I'm getting used to them and try to plan them in a way that they don't end up with a tragedy.

But, let's get back to the point - how to get to your destination Or more precisely, what to choose to go there? In my case, the matter is a little simpler, because I do not have a driver's license or a car, so I choose option number two. Here, however, there is a small complication, because I have three means of transportation. Considering the example of Vienna, I can go there by night bus from Lodz, by plane from Warsaw or by train from Katowice. Each of these options has its pros and cons, which later influences my final choice.

Ale, wróćmy do sedna sprawy – jak jechać? A dokładniej, czym jechać?

  1. Option number one "bus", is cool because I don't lose time during a day – it’s the night bus, direct from Lodz, so I don't have to go anywhere else to take the bus (because I currently live in Lodz) and I wake up the next day in Vienna. The inconvenience is that the bus starts late and thus I lose time waiting until midnight when I could already be moving towards Vienna just after finishing my studies/work at 4pm.
  2. Option number two "airplane" is the most convenient because it’s the fastest - the flight takes an hour. But (!) I need to go to Warsaw early enough to be at the airport at least 1.5h before departure. Unfortunately, this is the most expensive option, but it allows me to be in Vienna the same day.
  3. Option number three "train" is very nice, but long and requires an early departure from Lodz in order to get to Katowice and take the train to Vienna after 3:00 or 5:00 p.m. I prefer the train than the bus, because you can walk a bit, stretch your legs, work if you need and admire the nice route.

To sum up this analysis, the answer to the question of what to choose? is it depends. It depends on what time I can and want to leave, how much money I can spend, how much time I have for possible transportation from Lodz and how much time I want to spend in Vienna. As you can see it's not always that simple :p

Here I am showing a specific example, but such an analysis can also be useful in any other case. When you are facing a trip and wondering how to get there, check all the options that exist. Maybe there is a flixbus with convenient hours and relatively cheap tickets? Or a plane from an airport that is easy to get to? Or maybe there are other people who will go with you by car? What time do you want to get there? Is overnight travel worth the price? As you can see, the options are many and so are the choices you can make.

I'm curious how you guys make your travel decisions - do you consider several options or you don’t check it? Or do you have a different approach? I'd love to know, so be sure to leave a comment below!

July moments & August plans

It’s already a tradition on my blog that whenever I publish a podcast episode about last month's essentials I write an English version of this podcast episode for my blog. On one hand it’s for my English speaking friends so they can also enjoy this part of my content but on the other hand it’s a good moment for me to go back to all those beautiful moments and reflect on my new month plans. So here we go with some beautiful moments from July and cool plans for the rest of August!

July essentials

July was an “internship month” so it was all about my internship at a cosmetic laboratory. Actually I did more paperwork but still I was very happy I could help the team and my work was really needed. All in all I’m happy with what I’ve learned! And a little bit upset that I didn’t have enough time to see the real laboratory work but still. Experience is experience and what you’ve learned is good whatever it was.

It was also a month of a new challenge – I’ve started my driving license! If you follow me on Instagram, you could see it was really a challenge for me. I mean I had some ups and downs (as everybody) and learned a lot about myself too. For example I thought that I had already overcome this “you must be perfect in this in two seconds” but actually I still expected myself to be perfect at driving after two lessons… so it was a good moment for me to rethink and reconstruct my inner voice. My driving course is not over yet but I had to stop for a while because of my August voyage!

What else? It was a moment of some food goodies! In Poland we have a kind of a… sweet bun? Muffin? I don’t know what to call it but it’s like a bun filled with blueberries and we call it “jagodzianka”. It’s de-li-cious! And if you have a chance to try it, try it! Also it was a moment for my first iced latte :) ah what a beautiful month with amazing food! I think that summer is my favorite time of the year when it comes to food and fresh veggies and juicy fruits… love that.

August plans

On the 3rd of August I took a plane to come to Vienna. It was one of my favorite moments because it was the beginning of my vacation and the beginning of a very long moment that I’m going to spend with my beloved one. Being in a long-distance relationship makes you look for some opportunities to live together. I’ve already had this chance twice – for the first time it was in September 2022 when we went on a trip together for three almost four weeks and then in February 2023 when I had a longer break in between my studies. Having this opportunity to come to Vienna and actually live there is a huge thing and I’m very grateful for that! So what I’ve planned for this time?

Well, as I had a memory of me in February feeling lost in my routines and everyday life, I decided to plan my days, more or less, so I have some checkpoints that can help me organize myself and give me a feeling of having a purpose on an everyday basis. I wrote down all the things I can do during the day and I try to put them in my routine but without any pressure that “I must/have to/need to”.

Also I will come back to Poland for my birthday and then for one week at the end of August. Once I wrote down all the plane tickets I had already bought or still needed to buy and wow it was a real list of trips. And you know what? I’m very proud of myself to have this opportunity. It's a self-appreciation moment to tell myself “you did well and you’re doing well, congrats!”. Do you do it for yourself too? Highly recommended, self-applause is needed and it gives you this feeling of accomplishing a great job. Actually inner appreciation is more needed than this outer one. Okay I need to stop this Basia Coello talk, haha :p

That’s it for today, hope you had a great time in July and have an amazing time in August! Cheers!

I'm living my dream life

I am writing this post while siting in the train, which perfectly reflects my current lifestyle - on the go. Today there will be some throwbacks, but very important, which at the end give me some beautiful thoughts. Let’s begin with a little introduction, because without it, it will be difficult to understand the whole story. When I was 14 years old (basically it was 10 years ago... ?!) I went to the Czech Republic for New Year's Eve with my family and friends. There I met a guy, 7 years older than me, a pure traveler, who traveled the world (for that moment only Europe) in his van. I still remember the feeling when he told me about how he decided to go on a journey through the north of Germany, France, Spain and then down through Portugal to Morocco. At the time I thought to myself "impossible, you really can live like that?" and he must have read my mind, because he said "anything is possible, as long as you believe in it."

I haven't seen him since then, but after returning from that trip I told myself that I wanted to invite more positive thoughts into my daily life. And that in the future I want to travel like that too! Maybe not necessarily by van around Europe (but actually, why not?), but to have such freedom to travel. For my 18th birthday, I got a jar with a "Basia's Big Trip" card inside, in which my family and friends gave me some money for my small and big trips. The first one was to Paris, the second to Burgas, and in between there was the Polish sea. Then Erasmus, and on Erasmus a few day-trips here and there, one big trip to Brussels and Amsterdam. And then Covid and zero voyage....

A potem Covid i zero podróżowania…

After a year, I started to travel and fly again, although it was difficult due to restrictions (geezzzz, who still remembers those times 3 years ago?), but it was not impossible! After that, I started to travel all over the place, because I’ve started a long-distance relationship, so necessarily traveling became a fairly frequent form of spending time. And how is it now?

Now I feel that flying somewhere by plane feels like taking a taxi around the city. And I know that writing this is a huge privilege, because I have such opportunities, but hey! That little Basia from 10 years ago wanted her future to look like this, and with little steps, little decisions, she was closer and closer to such a future.

10 years after that moment, I go back to it and imagine myself saying to that 14-year-old Basia "hey, I made your dream came true :)" and I see those stars of excitement in her eyes! That's right, I have fulfilled and continue to fulfill my teenage dream and I travel with facility here and there and I’m opening to new destinations - October is preparing many beautiful things, but I'm not telling you yet, until it's one hundred percent sure.

Recently even my Grandmother told me "Basia, how amazing it is that you can be in so many places and visit them! Paris, Vienna, Martinique, I wonder what's next?" And then there is my thought for you - dreams CAN be fulfilled, then can come true. Think about it, have you by any chance already fulfilled a few? I encourage you to think like this from time to time, because sometimes we think that dreams are too far away from us and we can’t achieve them but they are often literally (!) at our fingertips.
Sending you a big hug! And good luck :)

Ściskam was mocno! I powodzenia :)

~ June ~

It’s already the beginning of July but let me quickly go back to the previous month and see what happened in June! It was a tough month because of exams but I managed to finish my semester and validate all the exams, woo-hoo! This is my biggest success and since my therapist told me to really appreciate my work and what I managed to do, I decided to make a list of my highs of the month and also some lows just to reflect on those situations and move forward with a lesson in my mind.

So here we go with some beautiful moments from June! First, my favorite thing was that it was already warm enough to go out without any jacket and I really like this kind of weather. I ate my first ice creams, drunk my first iced latte and had my first rhubarb tart that I love and could die for. Also first swim in the lake! Ah, so refreshing.

Then it was also a month of exams, as I already mentioned in the beginning, and exams mean studying a lot and it was hard for me this time. I mean, for first exams I studied a lot and had motivation to do that but then, the motivation went down… oupsi. Last exams were quite hard but at the end it was fine and I passed all of them. Shout out to all of you who validated the semester and are now free! And good luck for those who are still fighting :p fingers crossed!

During this month I had more time in between my therapy session so I had the chance to really work on my mind. Well, you have to know that during therapy most of the time I’m like ‘yeah, of course, I’m gonna try this technic next time” and then when the situation comes the old pattern returns and then I’m like “shit, it needs effort and patient to be changed…” So yeah, I’m really working hard but sometimes I forget that actually I need to do that work to make it change. Anyone can relate?

Back to beautiful moments! I spent a very nice weekend with my boyfriend in Poznan. We rent a car (the company was awful but it’s another story) and had some small trips next to Poznan – it was really cool plus I love looking at my boyfriend while he’s driving a car! I mean, look at this handsome boy hehe B) Also we went to Amsterdam for a weekend and had a nice time there. I got sunburned a day after my exam during which I had had to answer the question “what’s SPF and how it works and why it’s so important to put it on the skin every day.” Yeah… no comments XD

And the last week of June I spent in Vienna with my boyfriend, walking around, working, drinking iced latte, speaking French, dancing and seeing friends! How about your June? Let me know about your highs and lows – let’s inspire each other! And good luck for this month guys, stay inspired 😊

Take a break

The recent intense studying time got me thinking about breaks from studying (hehe). Because yes, exams session requires a lot of studying and putting a lot of knowledge in our brains, but such knowledge will not come in to our brain if the mind is overloaded. And this applies not only to learning, but to work in general - it's difficult to do a demanding task if the mind doesn't get a break. The conclusion is that we need a break, but that's not the end of the subject, because this break can't be just any break. Let’s say it differently - it would be good if it actually gave the mind a rest, rather than being another moment of overstimulation. In today's post we'll talk about how to take these breaks. I must say that I'm not an expert, but (!) I've gone through a few ways and noticed differences in my work afterwards.

To start with some practical stuff - I use the Pomodoro technique, which I mentioned here, and there these breaks are scheduled, so I don't have to think about them. However, if you don't use this technique, then I recommend to schedule your breaks after a maximum of two hours. In my opinion, three hours is already too much.

And the second thing is that Instagram or TikTok is not the best way to take a break... I'm not a saint and I still need to work on that, but really, giving our brain more stimuli makes things worse rather than better. Below you will find some alternatives!

1. Make yourself a coffee / tea / some kind of snack.

During intense work, sometimes we don’t notice that we’re hungry or thirsty, so it's a good idea to use the break to make yourself something to drink or eat like a small snack, not necessarily a big meal. While you're doing this, I recommend practicing mindfulness - don't think about the next task from the project, or what section you need to revise, or what email you need to write. Now you're making yourself a cup of coffee or tea and a nice snack, and put maximum attention into it.

2. Stretch.

Well, most of us study and work sitting on a chair, so the body needs to move from time to time. It's a bit like leaving clay out and after a while it hardens and you have to firmly massage it with your fingers to make it flexible again. The same thing happens to our muscles when we don't move. You don't need to do yoga, just stand up for a while and stretch as if you just woke up in the morning.

3. Go for a walk.

Another form of good activity! A short walk, time for taking big breaths. I would say that it’s better without headphones but you do you. Let’s just listen to the city noise and the birds (especially now). And if you live near a park and can walk there in 5-10 minutes it's even better, so make the most of it!

4. Water the flowers.

This may not be the way for everyone. I currently have 8 plants, so watering them takes more than 2 minutes, so it’s also a good way for me to take a break. Also, I usually stop for a while at each plant and just look at it and admire how it is growing :)

5. Meditate or breathe deeply.

Often during intensive study, and sometimes during work too, the brain starts to work too much, so to release the tension you can just focus on breathing. Meditation will help, but you can just close your eyes for a while and without turning on guided meditation sit in silence. To intensify your focus, you can repeat "inhale-exhale" in your head - I really recommend it, it calms you and your brain down.

This list is not closed! Feel free to add your ideas :) good luck with your studies and work!

Life at uni

June is actually the end of the academic year, but (!) it is the most intense period, as there is the exam session. That’s why I decided to write this post - to talk about mixing work, study and life in general, because after all, you still need to rest. As I write this, I have 4 exams left, two of which are pretty big, and one oral exam still to come. All of this combined with teaching French, a driver's license (yes, you read that right, I've started to do my driving license!) and an English course... a lot of stuff :p so how do you live your life with all of this together?

Let's start with studying - the key here is to plan it before! It's even better to write it down in a calendar - then you can be sure that you’re gonna study (well, more or less). I also recommend organizing the place for studying - I'm a person who prefers studying OUTSIDE the house, because then I'm tidying up my home all the time, I’m really focused on studying, but you can be different. In addition, I like to study with someone (cheers to Daria, who is the best study partner ;) ) - we tell each other about what we read, take notes together, explain and so on. I feel like I'm at a scientific conference and this vibe helps me a lot.

What's next? Work - I ‘m really lucky with my work, because I’m planning it every week as I’m teaching French online so I decide when I have classes and when I don’t, but I have to somehow combine it with my studies. And here the calendar also comes helps a lot! Combining work and study requires organization, so I recommend sitting down and writing down a plan for the next days/weeks and putting together work with studies.

Co dalej? Praca – akurat mam tę wygodę, że dostosowuję sobie swoją pracę, to znaczy ustalam dni i godziny zajęć, jednak musze to jakoś połączyć z nauką. I tutaj z pomocą również przychodzi kalendarz! Łączenie pracy ze studiami wymaga organizacji, więc polecam sobie usiąść i zapisać plan na kolejne dni/tygodnie łącząc pracę ze studiami i nauką.

And what about life? Hehe, it fills the space between work and studies ;) We need to go shopping at some point, cook dinner, make breakfast and also still rest and go to bed at a normal hour. It is known that the time of the session sometimes bends the rules of a healthy lifestyle, BUT this does not mean that we should force ourselves and study after nights drinking one coffee after another, because our eyes close over the books. Here we need to listen to ourselves and push a little bit and also let go a little bit. Sometimes I set an hour until which I want to sit and study and as much as I can do, I do, and then I go to bed. And as for meals I save myself with meal prep and simple meals to make in 10 minutes max! There's a lot of cool inspiration on the Internet, so I recommend searching around and making yourself a few meals for three or even four days.

And that's it! How about you? How's your life at uni? Good luck for your exams!!! Corssing fingers for you :)

I to tyle! A jakie jest wasze studenckie życie? Jak żyjecie w czasie sesji? Trzymam kciuki za egzaminy!!!

Small talk about May

May was so nice and cool but also challenging. This month I finally finished my project called “summer internship” and now I can finally say that I got an opportunity to have an internship in July! This is the biggest success of this month. But there were other challenges which I’m still working on such as strategies to deal with anxiety and stress that I’ve learned on therapy. This isn’t a quick & easy challenge and it takes time but somehow my mind is into looking for fast effects… Well, not in this kind of challenge ;)

What’s more? It was already time for some exams at uni so I spent some time with friends revising together which is so so cool! I mean, sometimes distractions are much bigger at my home when I’m alone than when I’m studying with friends. Talking about uni - I’ve started a great class which is about plants and their properties! How we can use them in our skincare and bodycare and (wow!) it is so cool for me! Wanna know more about this?

Another thing is movement - I’m actually pretty proud to say that my every day yoga challenge is completed with success :) or if not yoga then a lot of walks - there were days when I did about 10 km by foot! I really like walking especially when the sun is shining and I’m not in a hurry and I can enjoy the beautiful weather outside.

And last but not least - food! I think you already know that I’m a foodie and I love eating delicious food. May is a month of freshness and green color on the plate - I ate a lot of asparagus and some fresh veggies that finally taste not like water :p also rhubarb! Gosh, have you ever tried a rhubarb pie? If not, it’s a must for you! Not joking.

That’s it! Some of May's essentials and inspiration for you :) How about your May? Any challenge is completed or maybe you’re still on the road to your goal? And what about food inspo? Let me know, I'm really curious!
